Laurie Tugman Ian Brooking

Ian Brooking is a serial 'entrepreneur' who's been involved in numerous businesses over the last twenty-five years. He is the Chief Executive Officer of CoGen Limited, a developer of Advanced Gasification projects in the United Kingdom. His ability to integrate innovative funding solutions with complex engineering solutions has ensured that CoGen remains leader in their field. Prior to joining CoGen, Ian was a founder and director of the Una Group, a diversified commercial and environmental services business in the UK, and Burts Potato Chips. Ian graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Past Chairman

Laurie Tugman is the Past Chairman of Nexterra Systems Corp. as well as a Board Member of Newalta Corporation (NAL) and Envirosystems Inc. Mr. Tugman has over 30 years' experience in financial and operational management in the environmental compliance, waste management, and oil and gas industries. He was the former President and CEO of Marsulex Inc. which he joined in 1994 as CFO, progressing to COO and then CEO from 2004 until its sale in June 2011. Mr. Tugman graduated with a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario in 1975 and earned his C.A. in 1977. He was elected a Fellow Chartered Accountant in 2011 and was certified by the Institute of Corporate Directors in 2015. A member of Financial Executives International (FEI), he served on FEI's Board from 2004 to 2007. He has also served on the Chemistry Industry Assn. of Canada's (CIAC) Board from 2007 to 2011 and was Chairman from 2010 to 2011.

dejan Dejan Sparica, P.Eng.
Senior Vice President, Engineering

Dejan Sparica has over 25 years' experience designing and implementing industrial-scale combustion systems and over 30 years engineering experience. Prior to joining Nexterra, Mr. Sparica was Contract Department Manager at Salton Fabrication Ltd. (now Wellons Canada), Western Canada's largest manufacturer of wood-fired energy systems and lumber dry kilns. At Salton, Mr. Sparica was responsible for design and project management of turnkey energy system projects for Customers in the forest products industry. This includes implementing multi-million dollar projects ranging in scale up to 250 GJ/hr. Dejan directly oversees technology development programs and new projects development.

Philip W. Beaty, P.Eng.
Vice President, Strategic Relationships

Phil Beaty is an accomplished sales executive with 20 years of experience in applications engineering, sales and marketing of industrial energy systems. From 1988 to 2001, he was Sales Engineer for Salton Fabrication, responsible for application design and sales of wood-fired energy systems and lumber dry kilns to the forest products industry in western Canada and Australia, including sawmills, plywood and veneer mills, and OSB and MDF plants. Prior to this, he was Sales Manager with Hayes Dana's Industrial Products Division and Project Engineer with Weyerhaeuser Canada Ltd., Solid Wood Division. Mr. Beaty is a Professional Engineer with a B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. Prior to joining Nexterra, he was Director of Sales and Marketing of Etho Power Corporation.

Kelly O'Neil
Vice President, Projects

Kelly O'Neill has over 20 years experience in biomass gasification and combustion. Prior to joining Nexterra, Kelly was a Project Engineer and Project Manager at Wellons Canada where he was responsible for the design and execution of biomass and fossil fuel fired combustion systems and lumber dry kiln projects across Canada and the United States. Kelly is now responsible for the projects department and ongoing customer service and support at Nexterra.
