nexterra systems across the globe
Nexterra has delivered systems to clients across North America and the United Kingdom. We’re looking to add more dots to our map, so get in touch, wherever your project is.
| System | Description | Address |
|---|---|---|
| Renewable Energy 10 MW Power Plant | Birmingham Bio Power Ltd. (BBPL) Renewable Energy 10 MW Power Plant Nexterra is delivering its first biomass gasification project in the United Kingdom to MWH and Birmingham Bio Power Ltd. Nexterra's system is a cornerstone of the £47.8 million power plant in Tyseley, UK that will produce 10 MW of renewable electricity for sale to the grid. The project was developed by Carbonarius and will be project managed by MWH. It will use 67,000 green tonnes/year of locally-sourced class A – C wood waste diverted from landfills to produce steam that will be converted into electricity through a steam turbine and generator system. | Tyseley, Birmingham, UK |
| Groundbreaking CHP System | University of British Columbia UBC, Nexterra and have successfully completed an energy-from-renewable-waste combined heat and power (CHP) system located at UBC’s Vancouver campus. This is North America’s first commercial demonstration of a transformative system that combines Nexterra’s gasification and syngas conditioning technologies with one of GE’s high-efficient Jenbacher internal combustion engines. The engine will produce 2 MW (megawatts) of clean, renewable electricity and will also generate 3 MW of thermal energy to heat the campus. | UBC Vancouver Campus Tours, East Mall, Vancouver, BC, Canada |
| System to Provide Heat and Power | US Dept. of Veterans Affairs Nexterra has completed supply of a gasification system that will anchor an $18 million (USD) biomass heat and power system at the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Battle Creek, Michigan. Following commissioning and scheduled to open in 2014, the Nexterra system will provide clean, carbon-neutral heat and power to the campus. With a 14,000 ton annual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, the system supports the Department's objective to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its buildings by 2020. The project is being delivered in partnership with DeMaria Building Company and HGA Architects. | Battle Creek, Michigan, USA |
| Gasification system | Tolko Industries Plywood Mill Nexterra's gasification system at Tolko's Heffley Creek plywood mill in Kamloops, BC, converts low value wood waste into syngas that is used to replace natural gas at the mill. With over 50,000 hours of operation since it opened in 2006, the plant reduces greenhouse gas emissions at the plant by 12,000 tonnes annually, and has displaced millions of dollars in natural gas since it opened. | Tokio, Tokyo, Japan |
| Renewable Energy System | Oak Ridge National Laboratory Nexterra provided Johnson Controls Inc. with a 60 MMBtu/hr biomass gasification system for installation at the US DOE's Oak Ridge National Labs. Installation and commissioning of the plant was completed in 2012 and the Nexterra system successfully passed all of the performance tests, including tests for capacity, emissions and reliability. In the fall of 2013, the customer shut the plant down and in 2014 the customer decided to permanently decommission the plant. | Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Bethel Valley Road, Oak Ridge, TN, USA |
