Ian Brooking
Chairman

Ian Brooking is a serial 'entrepreneur' whose been involved in numerous businesses over the last twenty-five years. He is the Chief Executive of Officer of CoGen Limited, a developer of Advanced Gasification projects in the United Kingdom. His ability to integrate innovative funding solutions with complex engineering solutions has ensured that CoGen remains leader in their field. Prior to joining CoGen, Ian was a founder and director of the Una Group, a diversified commercial and environmental services business in the UK, and Burts Potato Chips. Ian graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Laurie Tugman Laurie Tugman, FCPA, FCA, BA
Past Chairman

Laurie Tugman is the Past Chairman of Nexterra Systems Corp. as well as a Board Member of Newalta Corporation (NAL) and Envirosystems Inc. Mr. Tugman has over 30 years' experience in financial and operational management in the environmental compliance, waste management, and oil and gas industries. He was the former President and CEO of Marsulex Inc. which he joined in 1994 as CFO, progressing to COO and then CEO from 2004 until its sale in June 2011. Mr. Tugman graduated with a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario in 1975 and earned his C.A. in 1977. He was elected a Fellow Chartered Accountant in 2011 and was certified by the Institute of Corporate Directors in 2015. A member of Financial Executives International (FEI), he served on FEI's Board from 2004 to 2007. He has also served on the Chemistry Industry Assn. of Canada's (CIAC) Board from 2007 to 2011 and was Chairman from 2010 to 2011.

dejan Dejan Sparica, P.Eng.
Senior Vice President, Engineering

Dejan Sparica has over 18 years experience designing and implementing industrial-scale combustion systems and over 25 years engineering experience. Prior to joining Nexterra, Mr. Sparica was Contract Department Manager at Salton Fabrication Ltd. (now Wellons Canada), Western Canada's largest manufacturer of wood-fired energy systems and lumber dry kilns. At Salton, Mr. Sparica was responsible for design and project management of turnkey energy system projects for Customers in the forest products industry. This includes implementing multi-million dollar projects ranging in scale up to 250 GJ/hr. Dejan directly oversees technology development programs and new projects development.

tim Timm Kukler, CGA, CPA
Chief Financial Officer

Timm Kukler is a co-founder of Nexterra with over 18 years of financial management experience and is the company’s Vice President, Finance and Administration responsible for the company’s financial planning and administration. Prior to co-founding Nexterra in 2003, Mr. Kukler served as VP Finance for Etho Power Corporation and as Director of Finance with IFCO Systems Canada Inc. Mr. Kukler also held various financial management positions with Okanagan Skeena Group, a publicly traded broadcast and media group and started his financial career with Carlyle Shepherd & Co. CA’s. Mr. Kukler obtained his Certified General Accountant (1996) and Certified Public Accountant (Delaware - 2000) designations in addition to a Bachelors of Business Administration from Trinity Western University.

Philip W. Beaty, P.Eng.
Vice President, Strategic Relationships

Phil Beaty is an accomplished sales executive with 20 years of experience in applications engineering, sales and marketing of industrial energy systems. From 1988 to 2001, he was Sales Engineer for Salton Fabrication, responsible for application design and sales of wood-fired energy systems and lumber dry kilns to the forest products industry in western Canada and Australia, including sawmills, plywood and veneer mills, and OSB and MDF plants. Prior to this, he was Sales Manager with Hayes Dana's Industrial Products Division and Project Engineer with Weyerhaeuser Canada Ltd., Solid Wood Division. Mr. Beaty is a Professional Engineer with a B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. Prior to joining Nexterra, he was Director of Sales and Marketing of Etho Power Corporation.

Cliff Mui, P.Eng., M.A.Sc.
Vice President, Product Development

Cliff Mui has over 24 years experience in process, chemical, mechanical, industrial control, instrumentation and project engineering. He joined Nexterra Systems Corp. shortly after the company was formed 10 years ago and has an extensive record of management of technology development through to commercialization. Prior to joining Nexterra, Mr. Mui was a consultant in the technology sector serving clients such as BC Hydro, Ballard Power Systems, DynaPower Systems and BI PureWater. He was the Engineering Manager for DynaMotive Energy Systems and managed various R&D efforts at the Materials and Mechanical Engineering departments at UBC. Mr. Mui is a Professional Engineer and a member of the APEG of BC, and also holds a Masters degree in advanced process control from UBC.

Malcolm Chilton
Managing Director, UK

Malcolm Chilton has over 30 years leadership experience in the waste management and energy-from-waste projects. Prior to joining Nexterra in 2014, Malcolm was the UK Managing Director for global waste management company, Covanta Energy. Prior to joining Covanta, Malcolm held senior positions at Energy Power Resources Ltd (EPR) and Associated Energy Projects Ltd, now part of Veolia. Malcolm is also a past director of the Energy-from-Waste Association and the UK Renewable Energy Association.  Malcolm holds a degree from Cardiff University in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

As Managing Director for the United Kingdom, Malcolm is responsible for the development and execution of projects in the UK market that utilize Nexterra technology.

Peter Scheck
Director, Customer Support and Service

Peter Scheck has over 30 years experience in high technology and mission critical support services. Prior to joining Nexterra, Mr. Scheck was World Wide Director, Customer Support for Hydrogenics Test Systems where he was responsible for the commissioning and ongoing support of Hydrogen Fuel Cell testing equipment that ranged in scale of up to 250KW for the transportation, stationary power and R&D markets in North America, Asia and Europe. Prior to this he was Corporate Director, Customer Support Products at Creo Products Inc. (Eastman Kodak) the leading World Wide supplier of imaging systems and software for the graphic arts and printing industry. Before this, he served in a wide variety of technical and management roles in large scale computing systems for the scientific and commercial information technology markets.
