US Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center

A Century of Veteran Care Powered by Sustainable Innovation

Since 1924, the Battle Creek VA Medical Center in Michigan has delivered comprehensive inpatient and outpatient healthcare to over 217,000 veterans across a 20-county region. To support those who served, the facility maintains a robust care infrastructure consisting of 104 medical and psychiatric beds, 32 residential rehabilitation beds, and 103 nursing home care beds.

To advance its sustainability goals, the center transitioned from fossil fuels to a carbon-neutral biomass system, slashing its greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 80% (14,000 tonnes annually). This green upgrade is the environmental equivalent of removing 3,500 cars from the road each year, allowing the facility to successfully meet federal mandates for clean energy and emission reductions.
