a groundbreaking combined heat + Power system
In collaboration with UBC, Nexterra has completed an energy-from-renewable-waste combined heat and power (CHP) system at UBC’s Vancouver campus.
This is North America’s first commercial demonstration of a transformative system that combines Nexterra’s gasification and syngas conditioning technologies with one of GE’s high-efficient Jenbacher internal combustion engines. The engine will produce 2 MW (megawatts) of clean, renewable electricity and will also generate 3 MW of thermal energy to heat the campus.

Application
Turnkey gasification system
Feedstock
Locally sourced urban wood residuals
Capacity
2 MWe of electricity and 9,600 lbs/hr of steam
Operation Date
2012

Collaborating for a Better Future
Nexterra’s core expertise is the design and supply of clean, reliable gasification systems that create heat and power from local, non-recyclable waste. Our innovative systems are ideally suited to a wide range of energy applications, including district heating, industrial process heating, community-scale power generation, and others. Nexterra is seeking to collaborate with alliance partners in the development of new solutions and new markets, as well as the execution of projects in Nexterra’s established markets. Whether you are an EPC firm, an equipment supplier, a technology developer, or an independent power producer, there may be an opportunity for us to create value by working together.
