Nexterra's gasification system at Kruger Products paper mill
next to downtown in New Westminster, BC.
Kruger Energy System First of Its Kind
Kruger Products became the first company in the pulp and paper industry to adopt Nexterra's gasification system at its mill in New Westminster, BC. Opened in 2009, the system converts locally sourced wood waste into clean burning syngas to produce 40,000 lbs/hour of steam that is fired directly into a boiler in place of natural gas. Nexterra's system reduces energy costs and lowers the mill's greenhouse gas emissions.
"Kruger's New Westminster mill is situated in an urban area so we needed the cleanest technology available and …also the most cost-competitive. Nexterra's system addresses both challenges, significantly reducing both GHG emissions and energy costs."
– Frank van Biesen, VP Technology, Kruger Products
